| FLORA, THE RED MENACE is a musical set in 1935, a time when many young idealists thought Communism could lead America out of the Depression and into a better world. It’s a story about a young woman determined to make it in New York, whose love for a radical WPA artists leads her to join the Communist Party. This was the first collaboration between John Kander and Fred Ebb, written in 1965. Like Cabaret and Chicago, it features a headstrong heroine with passion and idealism, and has a strong dose of political content. FLORA, THE RED MENACE opened on Broadway at the Alvin Theatre on May 11, 1965 and ran for 87 performances. At 19 years of age, Liza Minnelli won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her portrayal of Flora. A revised version appeared off-Broadway in 1987. |

Imagining Brad
by Peter Hedges (What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Pieces of April) starring April Magen and Sara Towber Directed by Suzanne Adams Assistant Director: Nina Capone Imagining Brad is a play with adult subject matter.

"Imagining Brad" has been with me for a long time. I saw a production almost 9 years ago that struck me so deeply I am now exploring it as a director. When I re-read it I remembered very little of the performances, content or physical structure of the play, but I did recall how I felt when the curtain came down and it was my turn to allow this journey to play on my mind. I was extremely disturbed... yet touched. This is not a play about victims. It is a play about real people. Survivors. And overall, it is a play about finding love and friendship in the most unlikely of circumstances. "Imagining Brad" speaks of the many levels of humanity. Good and bad. You may love this play or you may hate it. Maybe you will feel both. But you will find it hard to feel indifferent. ~Suzanne Adams |
